WS9C

Found along the water’s edge of Sunny Isles Beach in Miami, Florida, the Herman Residence radiates peace, health, and relaxation. Because the client wanted to experience the Atlantic Ocean as much as possible, they chose an apartment located on the fourth floor where they could hear the waves of the ocean and smell the salt of the sea. Studio Rodrigo Buelvas came into this project mid-progress, giving us an opportunity to improve and respect what has already been designed by the original architect. We did so while implementing the desires of the client, creating an inviting, open, and refreshing living space.

In addition to our studio philosophy of respecting original design along with keeping the desires of the client in mind, we aim to keep materials within their simplest form. For Herman WS9C, this manifested by keeping the strata of raw marble visible and usable, adding an organic element to the living room. Not only is it beautiful and unique, but it is sustainable and environmentally friendly.

We see the geometry continue to the master bathroom, evident in the mirror and lighting fixtures. Because the bathroom is left open to the master bedroom, the client can experience the view of the ocean while taking a bath. The guest bathrooms are each designed with the idea of masculinity and femininity in mind. Marble was installed here to keep materials consistent and simple, with a high contrast shown in the chosen color. The subtle lighting keeps the space lit, while continuing the sense of relaxation.

A customized workspace is displayed on the left, with a pocket light and simple materials chosen. The curvature within the master bedroom allows for freedom of movement and provides a place of rest. The muted pallet, accented with art and gentle lighting, allows the user to feel at home and on the beach while resting in their bedroom.
